Since 1986 when I graduated from the Swedish Institute in NYC being a massage therapist has been one of the best parts of my life. I remember walking into the classroom for the first time and thinking, I'm going to love this. I did and I still do. Right after graduating I began working with a chiropractic group where they were progressive enough to have massage therapists on staff. I learned a lot from each person I worked with, chiropractors, P.T.s, O.T.s, and podiatrists. The most important thing I learned was that I felt sure I wanted to form relationships with my clients and work with them to help them continue doing the things they loved, work or play. It was also during this time that I earned my Associates degree in Food and Nutrition from SUNY Farmingdale.
In 1994 I opened my business in Sayville and I began to build my clientele and business skills. This is when I started to become a better, more efficient and intuitive massage therapist through continuing education and focusing on clients who were invested in their well-being, were physically active and willing to work with me to improve their performances. In 2013 I began working with Leonora Petrina who was a runner sponsored by Saucony. During our time working together Leonora was the 1st place women's runner in the Philadelphia marathon and qualified for the Olympic trials twice. Her husband Mike Petrina was coach to Leonora as well as others and he began to refer clients to me. Over the next 10 years a large portion of my clientele was made up of runners and triathletes, some of whom have gone on to also qualify for the Olympic trials and compete in the Ironman World Championship in Kona Hawaii. The pleasure and satisfaction I get from working with these athletes is huge.
In 2019 my business was put on hold due to Covid which left me feeling dissatisfied so I decided to revisit another interest of mine. When I opened my business in Sayville I had begun to use essential oils in my practice and had been taking a class at the Swedish Institute which I could not finish because of the responsibilities of my business. I decided it was time to get my certification in Aromatherapy so I began my studies with Jade Shutes from The School of Aromatic studies. I completed 100 hours, did case studies and became a level one certified Aromatherapist. I also took a 50 hour botanical body product making course with Amy Galper so I am able to formulate many products using raw materials. I now incorporate all of my skills, education and experience to give my clients the best care for their bodies and minds. I am currently studying herbal medicine and plan on continuing to learn, grow and help myself and others to be well.
It would be my pleasure to work with you, peace and be well.
